Old Photo Sleuthing!
So, maybe someone can help me. It's long overdue, but I'd like to find out more about this photograph. We purchased it back in 2011 when I lived in San Diego. I bought it from the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Poway, when I couldn't bear to see someone's beloved family photo in a dusty bin for sale. I purchased it and it has remained largely neglected (but not dusty! Hah!) on my computer desk. Now, I'd like to devote a little time to finding out as much as possible about it, or (long shot) reuniting it with its rightful family.
There are no markings or signatures whatsoever on this photo, which measures about 24" x 14". It's of what I presume to be a first communion (so the family is Catholic). I thought originally the family pictured was possibly of German, Polish, or some other central/Eastern European descent, but now I am not sure. Popular opinion seems to think the family may be German or Russian, and that the photo is from approximately the early 1900s due to the dress and shoes of the family. I am not so sure though, because the style of dress of the man's suit seems more modern. One friend says it appears to be a European family from after WWI, possibly German.
Any ideas? Does anything in the photo strike you as indicative of a place or time? The boy's jacket on the left with the belt at the waist looks faintly German (in my ignorant opinion). Please message me with any help you can provide!
Many thanks,
H
