Roller Derby??

See this photo?  Those are the Gotham Girls Rollerderby All-Stars, and I'd love to be like them someday.  If you're not familiar with roller derby... Well, it's a contact sport.  It's made up of female athletes and team managers and mascots, and it is essentially a blocking-rushing race around a track, while points are added for who is in what position and where, and who gets passed by others or left behind.  It's a little complicated, but I'm still learning.  Competition is FIERCE.

To be a rollerderby girl you have to be fast, a go-getter, tough, and must use your skates as a faster version of your feet (and be comfortable to the point you could sleep in them).  You MUST know how to fall, and how to quickly get up.  That's very important.  A good metaphor for life, I think.

Anyway, I'd love to be a derby girl.  I'm using it as a source of inspiration to get well and whole as quickly as I can.  My husband is an avid rollerblader and is going to teach me how to skate properly (and fall properly).  It takes me awhile to feel comfortable on skates, but I've always enjoyed it and would love to learn more.  Hopefully, when we move back to the USA, I'll become the "fresh meat" of a team and train harder, and eventually compete.
