First "food porn" of the trip - shellfish and seafood at a streetside shop.
Oysters!
First night on the Champs-Elysees, by the Arc de Triomphe.
Walking along the Champs-Elysees (which was all decked out for the holidays!).
The girls stopped for fresh-made crepes by the Tour Eiffel.
S with her Nutella and banana hot crepe - so big she couldn't finish it all.
Ah, there it is. Le Tour Eiffel is as beautiful as you think it is. It never gets old to me!
Me, S (with R sleeping on her chest), O, and Y!
Looking up to where we were standing only a moment before, the Trocadero Gardens and the Palais de Chaillot.
Hello, Tour Eiffel!
O and I took a jaunt over to the Moulin Rouge to see a show, but they were sold out. What did we do instead? Sat at a Starbucks and enjoyed some lattes in the cold!
The next day O and I took the Metro to the small neighborhood of Montmartre, which was the only section of Paris I missed last year. I'm a HUGE fan of the movie Amelie, which was filmed in Montmartre, so I made it a priority to come here this trip. It was lightly drizzling in the morning but cleared up by noon. We started at the magnificent Basilica du Sacre Coeur.
Look who found an Invader! Muahaha!
Paris skyline behind me. I kept my backpack in front just in case of thieves.
At the base of the Sacre Coeur we found a small Christmas market!
Yummy!
THIS booth... Oooooh, this booth! These folks were making fresh scalloped potatoes cooked with cream, ham, and lots of cheese. I knew I could eat this, and we shared a bowl of it. It. Was. Amazing. I had to take a picture for scale reference since the big vat of it was so huge!
Walking through the Christmas market.
Big copper kettles full of fresh-cooked, hot soups!
Gigantic logs of homemade nougat for sale. These things are so dense and heavy, I'd bet a full roll would weigh something like 100 lbs.
Beignet, anyone?
Dried fruit.
Gargoyles on the side of the Sacre Coeur.
Walking behind the Basilica to explore the quieter side of Montmartre.
Off of Rue Cortot, heading north down the hill of Montmartre.
I KNEW some smart-aleck street artist would make fun of tourists like me!
Some G'z Up and Invader, and one new artist I'm not familiar with.
Up in the Place du Tertre is an artist colony still working (begun in the 1800s). This was a chalk artist doing a portrait of a little boy.
Another portrait being done.
An ink artist.
Montmartre bakery.
Different-flavored Macarons (a Parisian specialty).
Street art in Montmartre.
I found one landmark! This is the Collignon (true name!) bakery from the movie Amelie. I started dancing in the street when I saw it!
Talked to this really nice guy at the GLUTEN FREE MACARON house at the Christmas Market Les Arbonnes.
Sneaky Invaders all over.
Fun shot of the Metro at Cite.
The Cite Metro is by the Notre Dame Cathedral on an island called the Ile de la Cite.
The Notre Dame visit #2!
The first time we were here, we stayed at the front of the Cathedral and didn't make it a priority to go to the back. This time I made it around the side to see the flying buttresses and the gargoyles!
The other small island next to the Ile de la Cite, the Ile Saint-Louis.
Hospital cat sitting in the window of a vet. clinic. :)
The Pont du Carrousel by the Louvre.
Ferris wheel at the end of the Champs-Elysees.
Salmon smoking at a market in the Christmas market of the Champs-Elysees.
Sausages and fried onions!
That is all CHOCOLATE.
Last dinner in Paris with the girls. We had such a great time! :)
Little R with S being a champ on the airplane home. She did so well! :)
This little kidlet is such a wonderful little gal! We had so much fun goofing around while she was awake!
Paris is as romantic as everyone says it is. I LOVE that city! I'll keep going back as much as often I can!
