It's been a hell of a year, too. We lost our cat and my very best friend, my soulmate, Cairo, just after arriving and settling in. It's been a really hard year for that reason and losing her left me by myself and made the adjustment so. much. harder. But she's at peace and I've thrown myself into some other things here to keep myself busy since April. I'm working almost full time at the local veterinary clinic, making friends, traveling when I (we) have the money, and saving up for a visit to the US and to my family in December.
Meanwhile D has been super busy as well. He's playing acoustic guitar and doing backup vocals for a band here in our community and playing gigs, and while they're temporarily on hiatus in their search for a new guitarist he's been working a lot and fixing his car. He's done a lot with the house and has helped me a lot in our mutual new hobby (if you can call it that): cat rescue. Needless to say we've been coming across too many cats and kittens for too few available homes. It's tough here. Just met a woman who's rescued and rehomed more than 90 (!!!) dogs since arriving three years ago. I don't think we'll be that dedicated, but it's nice to hear!
We're still working on our "Bucket List" for Europe while we're here, and I'll try to post what we've already accomplished and what we still want to do... Although to be honest, nothing is "off the table". I'll go anywhere (despite my mother's objections, sometimes). :)
Anyway, we like it here and the US sometimes seems so very, very far away. Our family has stretched and adjusted to include our two Napoletano gatti, Buda and Ginny, along with our Italian neighbors and friends, and the American friends we've made since our arrival. The resilience of people in our community (both Italian and American) is to be admired, and I feel so grateful to be living this life and experiencing this. As time goes by I'll update this blog and hopefully have much to write about!
